Chicago | Engagement

We've had lots of adventures with our couples on their wedding day and engagement photos but Julia and Kirk's engagement session is one we will never ever forget!

A warning went off on my phone first. I thought maybe it was nothing, but soon everyone's phones were going off and the torando sirens started up in Chicago. The lifeguard at the beach announced for everyone to clear the water and take shelter! You can see in these images the sky began to take a shade of green. A supercell suddenly overtook Chicago! We took shelter for a bit while we waited it out and found a safe and dry but beautiful spot to continue the session after the downpours!

So after leaving North Avenue beach we tried to find an alternate spot to continue the engagement shoot with Julia and Kirk. We ended up at Union Station but the inside was closed for a private event so we made use of the beautiful covering and up lighting through the glass block on the floor. The supercell was still bringing rain in massive waves. And the sound of the lightning and thunder was so intense! You can see the amazement of the power of this storm in their faces in one of these shots!

Finally after braving the torrential downpour of the supercell and driving around town looking for shelter the rain stopped and created the perfect conditions for us to get the iconic Chicago Theatre shot!
